Pete Brown, lyricist for 60s super group Cream, has been a poet, singer, percussionist, record producer and screenwriter. As a Beat poet he worked alongside Spike Milligan, Allen Ginsberg and Robert Graves. As songwriter he is best known for his work with Cream, whose guitarist was Eric Clapton. Having been part of the Underground, he emerged as the lyricist of their massive hit songs 'White Room', 'I Feel Free', and 'Sunshine of your Love'. White Rooms and Imaginary Westerns is the personal odyssey of this poet, musician and writer. Brown takes the reader from the green fields of Surrey to the claustrophobia of a Jewish school in Hendon, from surreal day jobs operating lifts to hitch-hiking around Britain in a search for identity and girls. White Rooms deals honestly with the problems he faced - from the sexual side effects of a having a Jewish mother, to the mental adjustment necessary when, after years of earning GBP20 a week as a performing poet, he began receiving major sums his hit songs. Seminal figure in British poetry,jazz and Blues of the 60's

Pete Brown is known,if at all,as Jack Bruce's writing partner in Cream.While not a musician as such
he contributed lyrics or images for Jack Bruce's extrodinary compositions,during and subsequent solo
albums.What is not well known is his own fascinating journey as a beat poet in the early 60's and an
observer of the British jazz and Blues scene.He had is own groups parallel to working with Bruce not
as successful but still interesting for the period.(Battered Ornaments,Piblokto)He also worked with Graham Bond and Dick Heckstall-Smith.His vocal style reminds me of a mixture Paul Williams(Juicy Lucy
Tempest)and Graham Bond.More of a blues shouter.
Many stories capture the spirit of the times.Drug abuse and alcoholism plaguing him prior to his
success with Cream but he overcame his demons and became a pretty fine singer and percussionist.
The 80 's were uneventful for him as punk ,disco and new wave usurped the musicians of the 60's and
70's.In the 90's he became a producer responsible for a collection of 3 blues anthologies with British
stars honoring Cyril Davies,john Lee Hooker,and Peter Green.He also worked with his friend Dick heck
stall-Smith producing 3 albums and singing and playing on one.
As of 2010 he was still active playing and recording
