About the Author
Margaret H. Greenberg is a sought-after executive coach by Fortune 500 executives. In 1997, after 15 years in the corporate world, she founded The Greenberg Group, a consulting firm dedicated to coaching business leaders and their teams to achieve more than they ever thought possible. She holds a BA in sociology from the University of Hartford and a Master of Applied Positive Psychology (MAPP) from the University of Pennsylvania. Greenberg lives in Connecticut with her husband and has two grown daughters.
Senia Maymin, PhD, runs the coaching network Silicon Valley Change Executive Coaching and is the founder and editor in chief of the research news site PositivePsychologyNews.com. She holds a BA in math and economics from Harvard University, a MAPP from the University of Pennsylvania, and an MBA and PhD in organizational behavior from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Positive Psychology made relevant and user-friendly

I love this book.

The authors pack the most relevant findings regarding what make leaders and organizations flourish into a book that is lingo-free and extremely clear.
That in itself is a huge achievement.

The book has 4 chapters for personal mastery: the productive leader, the resilient leader, the contagious leader, and the strength-based leader.
It has 4 chapters for leading others: hiring, engaging employees, performance reviews and meetings.
And a chapter that puts it all together.
Sprinkled in the different chapters are 31 easy-to-use tools (conveniently summed up in an appendix) that put Positive Psychology into action.

If you are a leader who is looking for a scientifically-sound yet extremely practical book to profit from the insights of Positive Psychology, this is it.

If you are looking for a practical way to apply positive psychology in the workplace ... this is must read!

After moving from independent practice (clinical psychology) to the corporate world I became interested in positive psychology and strength-based coaching and leadership. Today I am a fan! Despite my passion I often wrestled with exactly how positive psychology and a strength-based approach could be applied to leadership development and performance and development coaching. Thank goodness that I discovered "Profit from the Positive!"

Greenberg and Maymin have done an outstanding job in providing the reader with over two dozen practical tools leaders (and executive coaches) can use. In addition to being practical and easy to implement let me share some of the specific reasons for my 5-Star rating:

* the little boxes throughout that include additional information
* the boxes with specific questions leaders/coaches can use to tap into underlying strengths and passion
* "Key Takeaways" at the end of each chapter
* reflection questions (really helpful for the reader to reflect and plan)
* the appendix that includes self-assessments and employee assessments of the manager
* "Good Reads" with recommendations for further reading (remembering that the authors emphasize "don't just read the book!")

Nice, succinct references section is also include although I do prefer to see references embedded in the text but that's just me.

If there is interest in implementing a strength-based, positive psychology approach this is a must read!

It will provide you with real time, in the moment exercises to support you in growing your emotional intelligence and positive approach. Both women bring lots of experience and real life applications of the tools they write about in their book. I am applying these tools with my clients and colleagues and getting positive results.

Need to Improve your Packing Method

I received the book in a very timely manner. Thanks! BUT, the packaging caused the corner to be damaged. I returned it and received the 2nd book very quickly. Thanks again. BUT the packaging was the same and the corner was damaged! THis was to be a GIFT/Award for a graduate. There wasn't time to ask for another. Using cardboard with the corners cut off does not protect the book in shipping. You really need to look into this!

great resource for under 200$

You are looking for a histology resource, probably as a pathologist or pathology resident. With a little modification, the third and updated edition of histology for pathologists may be the thing for you (if you have some time to read and tweak).
If you are looking for a "fast and furious" review, combine the histology sections of each chapter of Robbins and Rosai. However, if you really like histology - or feel that the knowledge of normal anatomy is the foundation to diagnose diseases, a more indepth review is required.
But: does histology change? or will the second edition do it?
The new version is really updated with many new color pictures and excellent makeover of the "not so colorfull" pictures in the older version. The main organ system structures stays the same and the apoptosis chapter from the 2nd edition is integrated in the different systems by site. All tables show a new, colored layout and even the myofibroblast chapter shines with multichannel immunohistochemistry. The big bonus is the included CD-Rom with almost all pictures from the book (including line-drawings). A nice option of the CD is to search by key-word (eg. endomterium pops up all figures with endometrium in the legend - a very nice feature) and all pictures can be downloaded for presentations. Two new figures about the sampling of the conduction system integrate gross sampling and histologic examination.
Summary - it's worth 160.
Now the tweaking. If you really want the ultimate resource you would have to go to the library, get the 2nd edition and copy/add the following pages/figures: Fig11.2, 86.2, 159.22, 259.23 293.7, 299.12, 306.19, 338.5, 340.6, 343, 345, 361, 362, 364, 435, 441, 533, 534, 664, 676, 684, 776, 800, 801, 802, 803, 827, 828, 1061 and 1134. Most of these are either classic figures not incorporated or modified in the new edition; some are simply better in black and white; and some are just old-school but still cool.
As a result you have a very complete histology text/atlas with updated references and a personal touch.

Over 400 million years, spiders have developed their sensory organs to a fascinating technical perfection and complexity.
In his intriguing book, Professor Friedrich G. Barth puts this technical perfection into the context of "biology", in which the interaction between environment and sensory organs and the selectivity of the senses as a link between environment and behavior play a major role. Professor Friedrich G. Barth was born in Munich, Germany, in 1940. He studied biology and human physiology in Munich and Los Angeles. In 1967, he obtained his doctorate under H. Autrum, 1970 he received his Habilitation in zoology. In 1974, he was offered a chair at the University of Frankfurt/M. Since 1987, he has been professor at the University of Vienna, Austria. His main areas of research are neurobiology, sensory systems, and biomechanics. He is a member of several scientific academies and editor-in-chief of the Journal of Comparative Physiology A.

A unique and valuable book on spiders

If you are interested in the biology of spiders, this is a terrific book. It is written at a level that makes it a useful introduction to research in spider biology (particularly sensory physiology) for scientists, but it also has much to offer the younger student who is beginning to learn about spiders. Although the focus of this book is on research related to relatively large "ctenid" spiders, the applicability is much more general. If you have a new pet "tarantula" (Theraphosidae) and want to learn more about it, this is a better starting place than most popular books on "tarantulas." Thus it has a place in both research libraries and public libraries.

I wish the price were not so high, but if you have a strong interest in really learning about spiders, this book is well worth the price. This thoughtful and comprehensive book can absorb your interest for a long time, and it will get you into the technical literature for even more information. The quality of writing, illustration, and presentation is outstanding.

This is very well written. The content is somewhat technical, but with a few exceptions it could be followed by anyone who has had some scientific education. It is not a light weight read, effort and thought are required, but for readers who are interested in spider biology, or how animals perceive their environment it is a first class book, albeit expensive.

Amazing Book! Printing Could Be Better Though

I love Nellie Bly. This book is a great read (although perhaps a little dry at times when she is reviewing some of the service aboard certain ships). Definitely worth a five star rating, but the printing took it down a star. The cover picture is stretched and the print is basically a copy and paste with no formatting.

Among other awards, he has received the ASTM C.A. Hogentogler Award, the ASCE Walter L. Huber Civil Engineering Research Prize, the ASCE Martin Kapp Award, the G. Geoffrey Meyerhof Award from the Canadian Geotechnical Society, and the ASCE Ralph B. Peck Award.

Great review book for microscopic and gross anatomy

This PreTest includes many clinical questions and bridges cell biology, physiology, human anatomy, embryology, and an introduction to pathology. It was very useful during the anatomy courses and helped me to a 244 on USMLE I. I know, there isn't much pure histology on the boards, but this book helped me quickly review the microscopic and gross anatomical structure of the body and prepare for USMLE I. First Aid gave me a list of areas to emphasize, but it has errors and is too lightweight for those students who want to excel and do a first rate residency.
