About the Author

Jay Dawes PhD, CSCS,*D, NSCA-CPT,*D, FNSCA, ACSM-HFS ASCA-L2, is an assistant professor of strength and conditioning, coordinator for athletic performance, and the head strength coach for women’s soccer at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs. He has worked as a strength and performance coach, educator, and post-rehabilitation specialist since 1997, and continues to act as a performance consultant for a wide variety of athletes, law enforcement officers, and those in physically demanding occupations.

Dawes is certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and as a certified personal trainer (NSCA-CPT); by the American College of Sports Medicine as a Health Fitness Specialist (ACSM-HFS); and by the Australian Strength and Conditioning Association as a Level 2 strength and conditioning coach. He was also recognized as a Fellow of the NSCA (FNSCA) in 2009.

Dawes is the co-editor for the NSCA’s Developing Agility and Quickness (Human Kinetics, 2012), co–author of Maximum Interval Training (Human Kinetics, 2015), and has written numerous book chapters and articles on improving sports and tactical performance. His primary research interests are improving performance for both sports and tactical performance among law enforcement officers.

He lives in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

interesting History

I found this book very interesting and I came to understand more on earthquakes.
I remember reading of this quake in my local town newspaper (too poor for TV) wish I still did not have one most of the time.
Anyway, reading all the destruction and how people afterwards came together with such positive attitudes of "it could have been
worse"and looked to start rebuilding.
I also never knew Alaska was so prone to earthquakes even surpassing California!
I highly recommend this natural disaster history you will learn a lot of Alaska

Great read...definitely recommend

This is a really thorough and well written account of a remarkable natural disaster. Many first hand accounts make this a compelling read. I've travelled south from anchorage on numerous occasions past a large field of dead trees. I always thought the trees were killed by fire. I was shocked to learn the tsunami after the quake wiped them out.

PURE SOUTH AFRICAN BRILLIANCE!

Yet again I was pleasantly surprised, and suitably impressed, with the writing of another South African author. Maggie Tideswell has done what only a handful of others have been able to do before her - and that is to prove that South African authors can compete on an international level with the best out there.

"Dark Moon" is a splendidly written novel which takes the reader on an unforgettable journey full of twists and turns and keeps you guessing until the end. The author introduces all the characters at the start of the book and develops their stories throughout to tie together in an explosive ending that will surprise even the most hardcore of readers. In this novel she expertly blends romance, mystery, fantasy and the occult; and explanations are given out of every angle and for every situation the characters are faced with, so that the reader isn't left hanging at the conclusion of the story. It is clear that Ms Tideswell has thoroughly researched every element that is used to make this a great novel.

The book is written in a unique South African voice and the dialogue reflects this accordingly. I have to applaud this author for being one of few who successfully uses the more-showing-less-telling technique. Not many have mastered this.

Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Southern African landscape, any reader who hasn't visited the country before will feel like they are taken on an explorative journey to the spectacular sights, sounds and colors of this strikingly beautiful tip of the African continent. The author doesn't hold back on the descriptions of the characters' surroundings and thus lets readers immerse themselves into the real-life world the story is based on.

Even though I had reservations when I started reading this novel, I am now a dedicated reader of this author's work and am looking forward to what Maggie Tideswell will surprise us with next.

A WONDERFUL STORY

This is a story of love and the occult. At the beginning of the book was are introduced to the characters that are involved in the story. At first it is confusing but then we are taken on an interesting exploration of the characters and their eventual involvement with each other.

Storm Fenton is a Psychologist living with her best friend, Donna. Storm has been dating Trevor Heardt for almost a year and is hoping that he will propose marriage to her. But things change when Storm meets a man on the beach, Jarred Walters, a Navy Captain, and has a sexual encounter with him. The encounter results in Storm becoming pregnant, leading to her decision not to marry Trevor even if he asked. She is determined to raise her child on her own and doesn't even know the fathers name. Since she was a virgin when she met the stranger there is no doubt that the baby is not Trevor's.

But a pregnancy and a one time sexual tryst is just the beginning of the bad things about to happen to Storm. When Jarred finally finds Storm and realizes that she is pregnant with his child he is determined to marry her and raise his child. But Storm wants Trevor. Or does she? Why is she constantly thinking about Jarred if Trevor is the one she wants?

While all this is going on someone is raping and murdering women. There have been seven murders and no clues as to the culprit. Can the murderer be someone no one would expect? Trevor's actions become irrational. His mother is a witch and he finds out that he has a long lost sister. According to his mother there is something evil about Trevor and he has plans for Storm. What are those plans? If his mother is a witch does he also practice magic? Does he practice Black Magic? Who is Trevor really? Will Storm make the right decision in who she wants to be with? What about the baby?

All though I couldn't figure out what the characters had in common in the beginning, and it seemed a little confusing, it didn't take long for the author to clear everything up. The love story was beautifully written and I couldn't help hoping that Storm would pick the right man. Did she? This is also a story of good over evil and who eventually wins. I really enjoyed this book it had it all, great characters, love, romance and of course, magic. So many twists, turns and surprises. You never knew what was going to happen next. It held my interest throughout.

Biting her lip to save her cheek, Storm lost the battle with the tears that had been threatening all day and doubly so after Trevor's rebuff. Andrew pulled her head down to his shoulder, rocking her from side to side, as he had done many times before. He let her cry, and then, after what seemed like forever, he said, "There, there, it's not the end of the world. You're going to make yourself ill. Come on, chin up. Trevor seems a good sort. You've been dating him for long enough. Why aren't you on the pill?" "It makes me ill, and as there was no reason to suffer, I didn't bother." Calm washed over Storm. "Uncle Andrew, it isn't Trevor's," she mumbled hoarsely.

Storm Fenton has just had confirmed what she and her best friend Donna had suspected - she's pregnant. Problem is, she has been dating Trevor for almost a year and he isn't the father. Actually she didn't even know the name of the baby's father. Her pregnancy is the results of a `rape' that wasn't exactly a `rape.' Maybe it's best called `consented rape.' But to Storm's surprise, she will soon meet her mystery man and when he discovers her situation, she can't seem to shake him. When she finally tells Trevor that she's pregnant with another man's child his attitude splits. He assures her that she will never have the baby while assuring her that she belongs to him and he will have her through marriage. His motive as well as his actions come from deep within and he seems sincere when it comes to wanting Storm for himself and does all in his power to keep her away from Jarred, the baby's father?

Andrea Dalle Vacche is a highly skilled IT professional with over 15 years of industry experience. He graduated from Univerista degli Studi di Ferrara with an information technology certification. This laid the technology foundation that Andrea has built on ever since. He has acquired various other industry-respected accreditations from big players in the IT industry, which include Cisco, Oracle, ITIL, and of course, Zabbix. He also has a Red Hat Certified Engineer certification. Throughout his career, he has worked on many large-scale environments, often in roles that have been very complex, on a consultant basis. This has further enhanced his growing skillset, adding to his practical knowledge base and concreting his appetite for theoretical technical studying. Andrea's love for Zabbix came from the time he spent in the Oracle world as a database administrator/developer. His time was mainly spent on reducing "ownership costs" with specialization in monitoring and automation. This is where he came across Zabbix and the technical and administrative flexibility that it offered. With this as a launch pad, Andrea was inspired to develop Orabbix, the first piece of open source software to monitor Oracle that is completely integrated with Zabbix. He has published a number of articles on Zabbix-related software, such as DBforBIX. His projects are publicly available on his website at http://www.smartmarmot.com. Currently, Andrea is working as a senior architect for a leading global investment bank in a very diverse and challenging environment. His involvement is very wide ranging, and he deals with many critical aspects of the Unix/Linux platforms and pays due diligence to the many different types of third-party software that are strategically aligned to the bank's technical roadmap. Andrea also plays a critical role within the extended management team for the security awareness of the bank, dealing with disciplines such as security, secrecy, standardization, auditing, regulator requirements, and security-oriented solutions. My name is Grigory, and I am one of the reviewers of the book. This book is written for everyone, but you have to have a little bit of knowledge of Linux system administration and scripting.

During my work on the book with Andrea, I gathered a lot of information and I think many readers would benefit from reading it. It contains a lot of nuances, which one could gather only through his or her own experiences, through trial and error. The author shares this knowledge with everyone so you could take advantage of modern Zabbix usage.
Besides this, you will know how to configure a high availability and failover monitoring infrastructure: clustering database (PostgreSql), mirroring block devices with LVM and DRBD, and using Pacemaker. And of course, you could use the knowledge beyond Zabbix, for example, to configure your application server.
I would recommend this book for system administrators and DevOps, who are concerned about their infrastructure and would like to use modern technologies in their work (for example, sending notifications to WhatsApp messenger).

About the Author
Mike Press is Professor of Design Research and Head of the Art and Design Research Centre at Sheffield Hallam University. He has written widely in the fields of design, the applied arts and design management, has addressed conferences worldwide and has broadcast on television and radio. Rachel Cooper is Professor of Design Management at the University of Salford where she is Director of the Adelphi Institute for Research into Creative Arts and Sciences. Author of many books and papers in the field of design research, she is also the founder of both the European Academy of Design and the Design Journal of which she is the Editorial Chair. The authors collaborated previously in writing The Design Agenda: a guide to successful design management which is published in both English and Chinese.
