Incredibly accessible and straight-forward book on filmmaking...

If you're looking for hundreds of pages of highly technical information about the art of movie making, then this book is probably not going to fit the bill. However, if you are interested in a relatively easy read that will touch on and summarize the highlights of the process of filmmaking, then Film Crew is a great choice. Although film and video production can certainly be a complicated subject to tackle, this book takes a very rudimentary and realistic approach to the process that is not at all difficult to comprehend. This book's short, simple chapters are definitely refreshing and the illustrations are very well done.

Very good mini film course.

I received this handy little book as a gift. I have been wanting to take a film class, but I did not have the time or money for film classes at this point in life. "Film Crew" was a really good "mini film course in a short book.
After reading it, I now understand the fundamentals of filmmaking. I like how the book covers the basics of every area of filmmaking in ten simple, short chapters. I would recommend "Film Crew" to anyone wanting to learn filmmaking the right way.

Finally! Technical subject matter made easy :)

I was amazed at how completely accessible and non-threatening the information and terminology came across in this book. I am not even a film student, but as a newlywed and expectant mother-to-be, I have recently taken a passionate interest in improving my home movie making skills. My goal is to be able to shoot, edit and archive videos of the welcoming home of our newborn and other family functions for sharing on the web as well as other future uses. I learned so much in such a short time from this book, I'm convinced that by using the tools and following the steps laid out in the book (especially the shot composition and lighting techniques) I will now be able to shoot some great home movies that are actually high-quality, well-produced videos, as opposed to ones that look like, well... home movies!
